Why Summer Is Harder on Your Skin Than You Think
When most people think about summer skincare, they think about sunscreen.
And while sunscreen is one of the most important things you can do for your skin, it's only one piece of the puzzle.
Every summer, I have guests tell me the same thing:
"My skin just doesn't feel right."
Sometimes it feels rough. Sometimes it feels dry. Other times it just doesn't have the healthy glow they're used to.
The good news?
Your skin isn't working against you.
It's simply responding to everything summer throws at it.
Summer Asks More of Your Skin
Think about everything your skin experiences during the summer.
More time outdoors.
More sunscreen.
More sweat.
More humidity.
More travel.
More makeup melting in the Texas heat.
Even if you're doing everything "right," all of those things begin to accumulate on your skin.
Over time, sunscreen, oil, sweat, makeup, and environmental debris can leave your skin feeling congested, rough, and lacking its usual radiance.
It's one of the biggest reasons skin starts to feel different this time of year.
The Little Things Matter Most
One thing I've learned after nearly twenty years of treating skin is that healthy skin isn't usually the result of one big change.
It's the result of lots of small, consistent habits.
One of the most important?
Cleansing your skin every evening.
I know life gets busy.
You're tired after a long day.
You've been at the pool, traveling, running errands, or spending time with family.
It's easy to skip your evening routine.
But getting the day cleansed off your face—removing sunscreen, sweat, oil, dirt, and makeup—is one of the best things you can do for your skin.
In fact, if someone told me they were only going to wash their face once each day, I'd recommend doing it in the evening.
Your skin does a lot of work during the day.
It deserves to go to bed clean.
Don't Chase Texture
One of the biggest mistakes I see every summer is that people notice their skin feeling rough and immediately assume they need more exfoliation.
Ironically, over-exfoliating is often what makes things worse.
Your skin has a natural protective barrier that keeps moisture in and irritation out.
When that barrier becomes overworked, skin can start to sting, burn, or become even drier.
Instead of trying to scrub your way to smoother skin, focus on consistency.
Healthy skin is built one day at a time—not by doing more, but by doing the right things consistently.
Why Professional Treatments Still Matter During Summer
Sometimes guests tell me they wait until fall to come in because they assume summer isn't the right time for professional treatments.
I actually feel the opposite.
Summer is one of the seasons when your skin benefits the most from professional care.
Consistent facials help remove the buildup that daily cleansing can't always address while supporting your skin's hydration and barrier.
They help your skin recover from everything summer throws at it so you can enjoy the season without sacrificing your skin.
Healthy Skin Is Built Through Consistency
One of the philosophies we believe at Nourish is that healthy skin doesn't require perfection.
I'm realistic.
I don't expect my guests to have a perfect skincare routine every single day.
I don't have one either.
What I do believe in is consistency.
Small habits repeated over time create healthier, stronger, more radiant skin than constantly changing products or chasing quick fixes.
Your skin doesn't need perfection.
It simply needs consistent care.
✨ Kenna's Professional Tip
One of the easiest ways to improve your skin this summer is to commit to cleansing your face every evening.
Removing the day—sunscreen, sweat, oil, dirt, and makeup—can dramatically improve how your skin looks and feels over time.
Sometimes the smallest habits create the biggest results.
